Annual Reports to the Membership from the Committees

Report of the Dinner Planning Committee
We had a great 2010-2011 season, averaging 30-35 attendees for each event.  And, in November, our registration broke all records when 47 registered to hear Dr. Barnett speak to us regarding "Planning for Effective Crisis Risk Communication".  We began the season meeting at the Ford Office Building and later moved to the Department of Labor.  Our most recent venue has been at National Geographic Society (NGS), which includes free parking.   We provide a parking list to NGS' Security Office seven days prior to each event and an attendance list two days prior to the meeting.   For dinner, we continue to order sandwiches and salads from near-by Potbellys and they deliver for us.   We've received no complaints (only praise!)  regarding food and our new location.  We've also been fortunate to keep cost at $10 for members and $15 for non-members, including meal and CEUs.

I want to thank the members who have assisted the Committee throughout the year -- setting up the meeting room and tables, greeting attendees, meeting and escorting the delivery personnel, and cleaning up after each meeting.  These members include (but may not be limited to) Karen Barry, Charlotte Carneiro, Rebecca Jahandari, Magdelena Marquez, Phyllis Waslo, Mary Doyle, and Barbara Hayden.

If you'd like to be a member of the Dinner Planning Committee, you may contact the Association President, Barbara Hayden, at 202-641-1854 or by e-mail at barbara_s_hayden@nbc.gov.

The board agreed to change the name of this committee from "the Planning Committee" to the "Dinner Meeting Committee" to reflect its straightforward mission: handling the logistics of our 5 dinner meetings each year. These include web registration, food procurement, welcome/sign-in, and clean up.

Respectfully submitted May 17, 2011,
Joe Ann Conrades, Out-going Chair

Report of the Public Affairs Committee

The Public Affairs Committee steadfastly maintains the MWAOHN Website and publishes news releases that described activities of MWAOHN members and the organization.  As well, the Committee,in communications to members and potential members, continues to promote the value of membership and participation in AAOHN and MWAOHN.  Recently, Dr. Toni Eason joined the Public Affairs Committee and will become a member of the website team.  Welcome Toni!  We encourage members to submit articles and items of interest to the Public Affairs Committee for publication.

Respectfully Submitted May 16, 2011
Claudia Beach, Chair

Report of the Membership and Nominating Committee
The nominating committee was able to recommend candidates for the following positions: Vice President, Treasurer, Board of Directors (2), and Nominating Committee (2). The ballots were emailed  this year with fabulous results.  The e-mail contained candidate information and a link to survey monkey in which people could submit their votes electronically.  Access to the ballot results was provided to the nominating committee and the Chairman of the Tellers.

We had a successful election with  39 ballots being sent and 34 votes tallied.  Outgoing members of the Board are:
Charlotte Carnero (Vice President 2009 - 2011); Phyllis Waslo (Director 2008 - 2011); and Esmee Swan (Nominating Committee 2008-2011).  We cannot thank you enough for all your hard work and dedication to this organization.

Any members who would like to serve on the board, please speak with any of the officers about their duties, and to members of the nominating committee about your interest.

The board agreed to change the name of this committee to the  "Membership and Nominating Committee" to reflect the year-long mission of cultivating member engagement and recruitment,  supporting the dinner meetings with hospitality duties, and  finding members interested in serving as officers and directors.

Respectfully Submitted May 16, 2011  Karen Barry, Chair, Nominating Committee, along with Wenda Bold and Esmee Swann, Committee Members
