Truly, I have enjoyed my nursing career of 20 years with FOH as a
contractor. I worked at the Bureau of Engraving and Printing from 1988
- 1999, Occupational Health Nurse. It was a busy health unit with about
two thousand employees, open 24 hours. There was never a dull moment
because of a many injuries as well as physical and mental issues.
1999 - present , I am at the Washington National Record Center in
Suitland, Maryland which is part of National Archives Record
Administration. During these 20 years, Virginia Rauer, Linda Scotti,
and Barbara Rothbord were my Supervisor/Managers. My present supervisor is
Jonnie Widener. I thank all of them for their support and favor.
I am the Membership Chair for MWAOHN.
I met my husband, Charles, in high school. We married in 1961 in Georgia
and moved to Washington, DC. In 1968 we moved to Maryland where we have lived in
the same house for 36 years. We have 4 children and 5 grandchildren .
Charles Jr, Scientist, Bobby, Sheila, Business Management , and Tony Sr. is the youngest son. He spent a tour of duty in Iraq, so he will be
graduating from Baltimore Community College May 31, 2008 in Computer
Information System. Tony Jr., our grandson, graduated from St Augustine
College in 2007, in Computer Information Systems. He will be going into the
Air Force in July.
I am an ordained minister at Holy Cross
Pentecostal Church in Capitol Heights, Maryland. I am associate
minister with the title Evangelist. I assist the Pastor, Elder Irving Rollins, teach Sunday
school and teach Vacation Bible School.
We went to the Southern Caribbean on the Norwegian Cruise
Line in March for 9
days. Flew to Miami to get the ship. We toured Samana, Dominican
Republic; Tortola, British Virgin Islands; St. John's, Antigua; Brigetown, Barbados; St. Lucia, Saint Lucia. We saw
the Caves & Mangroves Exploration. After a safety briefing, we
began an ecological experience. They had the most lush rainforests and
mangrove reserve in the Caribbeans. Los Haitiese National Park is a
beautiful sanctuary. We observed the "bird Island" while the guide
explained the importance of the many migratory and indigenous birds
that inhabit the island. We got off the speedboat and walked in th
caves. The walk ways were very narrow; some areas were steep. We observed
the cave drawings which represented the gods and the daily life of the
Tiano Indians. We got a glimpse into the life of these ancient people.
We also saw the beautiful stalagmites and statactities which have
formed over centuries. It was exciting to see how other live and cope
with very little. It was a great cruise and great experience for me.
I am very proud of my granddaughter, Raeshayla, who is a budding and
obviously talented writer.
Raeshayla, 15, lives in Clinton, Maryland and attends the Visual and Performance Arts (Dance) at Suitland High School in Forestville, Maryland.
Raeshayla wrote the following article about her trip to China. We think you will be charmed by Raeshayla's very
interesting story and amazed at her writing skills.
