A former OSHA inspector states that
many times when he was doing fatality investigations, he would hear the equipment operator(s) make the statement, "we didn't know he was there..." or "I didn't see anyone walking (working) near me..." or somthing similar. Often, on 'near misses' the employee wh was nearly run over or caught in between pieces of equipment would be very angry and say, "how could they not have seen me?" In fact, that was the very case; the operator did not see them!
The slides below were created by a U.S. Department of Energy contractor to demonstrate the "No-See Zones" of the operators of various types of equipment. The illustrations are an excellent educational tool for workers and students. All vehicle drivers should pay special attention to the "No-See Zones" around the roadway vehicles such as the tractor-trailer, refuse hauler and school bus.
